Israeli Man Arrested in Crete for Causing Forest Fire While Barbecuing
A 35-year-old Israeli citizen was arrested on Crete, Greece, on suspicion of accidentally causing a forest fire while barbecuing in an area with a very high fire risk warning. The fire broke out on Friday at 19:11 in the municipality of Agios Vasilios, located in the Rethymno region of southern Crete. Greek firefighting services reported that the fire did not spread extensively and was brought under control after approximately four hours. The Israeli man was detained by fire investigators and is expected to appear before a judicial investigator and prosecutor, who will decide whether to file charges against him. If charges are filed, the authorities will also determine whether to keep him in custody or release him under restrictive conditions.
