Ultra-Orthodox protesters took to the streets in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in protest of the arrest of 19 draft evaders. In Jerusalem, the protesters tried to block vehicles transporting detainees, which led to clashes with police. Additional demonstrations are also expected in Ramla and in the Sharon area.

Ultra-Orthodox protests continued today, Wednesday, at several locations across the country, following the arrest of 19 Ultra-Orthodox draft evaders who took part in riots outside the home of Judge Noam Solberg. Dozens of protesters took to the streets in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Ramla, and clashed with police. The protesters expressed anger over the arrests and over the intention to transfer the detainees to the care of military authorities.

In Jerusalem, the protesters gathered in the Russian Compound area and tried to disrupt the movement of vehicles transporting detainees from the nearby detention facility. Tensions and clashes were recorded at the scene between the protesters and police, who reinforced their presence in an effort to disperse those disturbing the peace. At the same time, Ultra-Orthodox demonstrators also protested near the Abu Kabir detention center in Tel Aviv. The protest is expanding, and additional demonstrations are expected outside Nitzan Prison in Ramla and Hadarim Prison in the Sharon area. The protesters are demonstrating against the arrest of the draft evaders and the intention to hand them over for further treatment by military authorities, and are calling for their immediate release.
