Israeli Forces Evict Illegal Outpost in Palestinian Village of Kusra Amid Security Concerns

Israeli security forces evacuated an illegal outpost in the Palestinian village of Kusra overnight for the third time after it was reestablished following a previous removal. The outpost, set up by extremist settlers, has become a focal point of clashes and has required significant deployment of security personnel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for the possibility that activists will attempt to return and rebuild the encampment again.

A security official told N12 that the ongoing efforts to manage these outposts divert troops from their primary missions of counterterrorism and protecting settlements, stating, "Our forces are not infinite, and they drain our resources." The outpost was initially cleared earlier in the week but was quickly reassembled by activists who also blocked access to the village with rocks.

Senior military commanders, including Central Command Chief Major General Avi Blot, the Judea and Samaria Division commander, and the Border Police commander for the West Bank, visited the site and engaged with the Palestinian family living nearby. The Kusra incident is part of a broader pattern of illegal outposts established across the West Bank since a terror attack in the nearby village of Tel three weeks ago, some of which remain uncleared.

In response to the escalating situation, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir ordered reinforcements to the area, deploying an infantry battalion from the reserves and placing additional forces on standby. The military is coordinating with the police and Shin Bet to restore order, maintain security, and hold perpetrators accountable.

The events have also drawn international attention. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Herzog condemned the settlers' actions, labeling them as criminal and terroristic. He stated that Israeli security forces acted at the request of the United States to remove the extremists and emphasized there is no justification for such intimidation tactics against Palestinian families. Diplomatic contacts between Washington and Jerusalem have been ongoing amid the unrest.

The IDF continues to prepare for further attempts to reestablish the outpost, underscoring the challenges posed by these illegal settlements to Israeli security operations in the West Bank.
