IDF Launches Investigation Into Controversial Kusra Outpost Eviction and Palestinian Family Evacuation

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has initiated an investigation into the events surrounding the Kusra outpost in the West Bank, focusing on why it took two days to evacuate the unauthorized settlement and why forces were deployed without clearing the area. The probe will also examine the decision to ask Palestinian families to leave their homes temporarily during the operation.

Earlier this week, extremist settlers established an illegal outpost inside the Palestinian village of Kusra in Samaria. The IDF arrived only three days later to begin evacuation efforts, with the Central Command chief present. However, shortly after the initial evacuation, the outpost was reestablished by the settlers, prompting a second removal 24 hours later.

During the confrontations, settlers blocked access to the village with rocks, and reports surfaced of IDF soldiers praying alongside the extremists. Palestinian families expressed distress on social media, citing dwindling resources and hardship. The IDF's handling of the situation has drawn significant international criticism.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Herzog publicly condemned the settlers' actions, describing them as "shocking acts of terror" aimed at intimidating the Palestinian family and affirming that the IDF and Israeli police acted at the U.S. request to remove the perpetrators. The investigation's findings will be presented to IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir.
