Israeli Forces Evacuate Illegal Outpost in Palestinian Village of Kusra Amid Security Concerns

Israeli security forces evacuated an illegal outpost in the Palestinian village of Kusra overnight, marking the third removal after settlers reestablished the site following previous evacuations. The outpost, located within Kusra in the West Bank, has become a focal point of clashes between extremist settlers and Israeli security personnel, drawing significant military resources.

A security official told N12 that the ongoing efforts to dismantle such outposts divert troops from their primary missions of counterterrorism and protecting settlements. "Our forces are not infinite, and these incidents drain our capabilities," the official said. Since a terror attack in the nearby village of Tel three weeks ago, multiple illegal outposts have been established across Judea and Samaria, some still standing despite military orders to remove them.

The recent evacuation followed a similar operation the previous morning, after which settlers quickly rebuilt the outpost and blocked access to Kusra with rocks. Senior military commanders, including Central Command Chief Major General Avi Blot, the Judea and Samaria Division commander, and the West Bank Border Police commander, visited the site and met with the Palestinian family living nearby.

In response to the escalating tensions, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir ordered reinforcements to the area, deploying an infantry battalion from the reserves and placing additional forces on standby. The military is coordinating with the police and Shin Bet to restore order, maintain security, and hold perpetrators accountable.

The situation has also drawn international attention. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Herzog condemned the settlers' actions as "criminal" and "terrorist," stating that Israeli forces acted at the U.S. request to remove the extremists. Washington and Jerusalem have been engaged in discussions over the events in Kusra, which have required intensive security responses over several days.

The IDF remains prepared for further attempts by settlers to reestablish the outpost, emphasizing the ongoing challenge illegal settlements pose to Israeli security operations in the West Bank.
