IDF Begins Eviction of Illegal Outpost in Kusra Following Controversy Over Soldiers Praying There

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Border Police have initiated the evacuation of an illegal right-wing outpost near Palestinian homes in Kusra, starting early on August 12, 2026. The outpost, established close to Palestinian family residences, has been the site of clashes after the Central Command declared the area a closed military zone. Palestinian families reported being besieged by right-wing activists who allegedly sabotaged their electricity and water supplies by damaging cables and pipes.

The operation follows public criticism after videos circulated on social media showing IDF soldiers praying alongside right-wing activists at the outpost, which sparked severe backlash. The Central Command announced an investigation into the incident and disciplinary measures against the soldiers involved, who were reportedly punished on the morning of the evacuation.

According to Palestinians and Israeli human rights activists, the outpost, known as "Tel Talpiot" and established in January 2026 in Area B, recently expanded with a new structure resembling a sukkah near two Palestinian homes. The activists then imposed a blockade by piling stones to block access roads and damaging solar panel connections overnight.

The IDF condemned the soldiers' conduct as serious and took steps to locate and discipline them. The ongoing evacuation operation reflects heightened tensions in the area and efforts by Israeli authorities to enforce military orders and maintain order amid settler-Palestinian conflicts.
