Israeli Police Arrest Dozens in Southern Crackdown on Extortion Networks

Early Tuesday morning, Israeli police arrested dozens of suspects in Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, and other southern communities on suspicion of involvement in extortion, threats, and related crimes. The large-scale operation was led by officers from the Lahav 433 unit and National Guard fighters of the Border Police. Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levi emphasized the ongoing determination to dismantle organized crime extortion networks across Israel.

The arrests followed a lengthy joint investigation that gathered evidence against numerous suspects, including key figures known to the Southern District Police. The operation entered its visible phase with coordinated raids on the homes of suspects, who were then taken for questioning at the Lahav 433 Central Unit in the Lachish region. They are expected to appear in court later Tuesday for detention extension hearings.
