Israeli Police Arrest Southern Crime Boss in Major Extortion Crackdown

Israeli police arrested the head of a prominent crime organization in southern Israel early Tuesday morning as part of a large-scale operation named "Relay Race." The operation targets extortion rackets involving delivery workers in the south, focusing on protection money and threats. The crime boss was detained at a hotel alongside dozens of other suspects linked to extortion, threats, and additional criminal offenses that undermine public security.

The arrests were carried out by detectives from the Lahav 433 unit, National Guard fighters from the Border Police, and special forces from the Counter-Terrorism Unit, with raids conducted in Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, and other locations. Evidence was gathered against key figures in the southern district believed to be involved in the criminal activities.

Police Commissioner Danni Levi emphasized the commitment to dismantling extortion infrastructures nationwide, stating, "We will dismantle the protection rackets across the country." The suspects were taken for interrogation at the central unit of the Lachish district and are expected to appear in court later today for detention extension hearings.
