Israeli Witnesses Major Earthquake in Colombia Reporting Multiple Building Collapses

An Israeli man staying on the eighth floor of a high-rise in Colombia described the intense earthquake that struck the country on Monday morning. The quake, measuring 7.4 in magnitude, occurred near San José del Palmar in the Chocó department and was felt widely across Colombia. The Israeli, who arrived from Cali early that morning, recounted how the building shook violently and people screamed as they evacuated to safety.

He reported that at least five to six buildings collapsed in various regions including Pereira, Cali, and Manizales. Fortunately, the earthquake struck at a time when most people were already outside their homes, potentially reducing casualties. The Israeli also noted that local volunteers he had worked with previously through ZAKA had already mobilized to assist in the affected areas.

The US Geological Survey confirmed the earthquake's epicenter was about 107 kilometers underground. Damage assessments are ongoing, but the Israeli expressed hope and prayers that there were no fatalities. The situation remains fluid as rescue and aid efforts continue.
