18-Year-Old Undergoes Cosmetic Nose Surgery, Ends Up in ICU After Acid Injection Error

An 18-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Ichilov Hospital after a routine cosmetic nose surgery at MEDICAL TLV went dangerously wrong. During the procedure, instead of anesthesia or a vasoconstrictor, an acidic substance was mistakenly injected into her nostrils, causing severe burns in her mouth and throat, including damage near her vocal cords. This led to an emergency transfer to Ichilov and a life-threatening medical crisis.

The patient's mother, Sapir Maimoni, recounted the harrowing moments outside the operating room, describing how the surgeon informed her of the error and the urgent need to move her daughter to intensive care. She described visible burns extending from the cheek toward the eye and said her daughter was in shock. Maimoni expressed deep disappointment with the medical team, emphasizing that she entrusted her daughter to experienced professionals and demanding that such negligence not be taken lightly.

MEDICAL TLV responded by confirming that the anesthesia was administered correctly but that the surgeon mistakenly soaked tampons in the wrong substance due to a rare human error. Once the mistake was discovered, the patient was immediately transferred to Ichilov Hospital. The medical center expressed regret over the incident and stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted, with findings shared with the family and relevant authorities.
