18-Year-Old Woman in ICU After Nose Surgery Mistake Involving Acid Injection

An 18-year-old woman is in intensive care following a severe complication during a nose surgery at a private hospital in central Israel on Friday. Medical staff discovered serious burns on her face during the procedure, which was immediately halted. It is suspected that the anesthesiologist mistakenly injected an acidic substance instead of anesthesia, causing severe burns to her face and respiratory tract.

The patient was intubated, sedated, and ventilated before being urgently transferred to Ichilov Hospital, where doctors stabilized her condition. Due to significant respiratory damage, she underwent an emergency surgery with an extended medical team before remaining sedated and ventilated in intensive care.

The woman had previously been injured in a car accident about two years ago, and the surgery was intended to correct her nose. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, examining possible medical negligence and the circumstances that led to the critical error during the operation.
