18-Year-Old Critically Injured After Anesthesia Mix-Up During Nose Surgery in Central Israel

Police have launched an investigation into suspected medical negligence following a serious incident at a private hospital in central Israel on Friday. An 18-year-old woman, who had previously been injured in a car accident near Gevat Junction about two years ago, underwent nose surgery at the hospital. During the procedure, it is suspected that the anesthesiologist mistakenly administered an acidic substance instead of anesthesia. This error caused severe burns to her face and respiratory system. The surgeon noticed the problem during the operation and halted the procedure. A paramedic intubated the patient, who was then sedated and ventilated. She was transferred to Ichilov Hospital, where she remains in critical condition in intensive care. Due to the severe damage to her respiratory tract, she underwent emergency surgery involving a team of about ten doctors to treat her airway injuries. She remains sedated and hospitalized in intensive care. The police investigation is ongoing to clarify the circumstances and the suspected negligence.
