National Insurance Distributes 1,204 NIS Education Grant to Over 140,000 Israeli Families

The National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) will transfer the annual education grant tomorrow to more than 140,000 families across Israel, ahead of the 2026-2027 school year starting in about two weeks. A total of approximately 335 million NIS will be distributed to eligible families to help cover expenses such as books, notebooks, backpacks, and other school supplies. This year's total grant amount is about 35 million NIS higher than in 2024.

The grant provides 1,204 NIS per child aged 6 to 18, benefiting roughly 197,000 children from families headed by a single parent and about 79,000 children from large families (four or more children) receiving various social allowances, including income support, alimony, disability, senior citizen benefits, or survivor benefits. Payments will generally be made automatically to parents' bank accounts for children born between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2020.

Families with children outside this age range may still qualify if the child is currently enrolled in first or twelfth grade, provided they submit an official school enrollment certificate to the National Insurance Institute. Additionally, families experiencing recent changes in status, such as a parent becoming a single parent, are encouraged to verify eligibility and can submit a one-time grant application online or at local offices if necessary.

Zvika Cohen, acting CEO of the National Insurance Institute, emphasized that the grant aims to ease financial burdens for eligible families and support children's education with minimal bureaucracy. He stated, "Investing in children and their education is an investment in the future of Israeli society, and we are proud to be part of that."
