National Insurance to Distribute NIS 335 Million in Education Grants to Over 140,000 Families

The National Insurance Institute of Israel will transfer NIS 335 million tomorrow to pay annual education grants to more than 140,000 families ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. Each eligible child aged 6 to 18 will receive a grant of NIS 1,204 to help cover expenses such as textbooks, backpacks, and school supplies. This year’s total grant amount represents a NIS 35 million increase compared to 2024.

The payments target self-employed parents and families receiving income support allowances, covering approximately 197,000 children of self-employed parents and 79,000 children from families with four or more children on income support. Most recipients will receive the funds automatically via bank transfer. Eligibility applies automatically to children born between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2020, while first and twelfth graders outside this age range may qualify upon submitting proof of enrollment. Parents who recently changed their status to self-employed must submit a one-time application.

Zvika Cohen, acting CEO of the National Insurance Institute, emphasized the grant’s role in easing financial burdens for families preparing for the school year. He stated, "The education grant is intended to ease the burden on eligible families and assist with related expenses. The investment in children and their education is an investment in the future of Israeli society, and we are proud to be part of it." The grant distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, about two weeks before the school year begins.
