Israel's National Insurance to Distribute 1,204 Shekels Per Child Education Grant

The National Insurance Institute of Israel will transfer the annual education grant totaling 335 million shekels on Tuesday, ahead of the 2024-2025 school year starting in about two weeks. The payment will be automatically deposited into the bank accounts of over 140,000 eligible families, covering approximately 276,000 children. The grant amount is 1,204 shekels per child aged 6 to 18, specifically for children born between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2020. However, children outside this age range may also qualify if they are currently enrolled in first or twelfth grade, upon submission of official school enrollment confirmation.

Eligibility includes families headed by a single parent and large families with four or more children who receive social security benefits such as income support, alimony, disability, senior citizen, or bereavement allowances. This year’s total grant amount represents an increase of about 35 million shekels compared to 2024. Parents whose family status has recently changed, such as becoming a single parent, are advised to verify eligibility and submit a one-time application through the National Insurance website or local branch.

Tzvika Cohen, acting CEO of the National Insurance Institute, emphasized that the education grant aims to ease financial burdens for eligible families as the school year begins and to support children’s education as an investment in Israel’s future. The majority of payments will be made automatically to minimize bureaucratic hurdles for parents.
