Dramatic Jerusalem Chase Ends With Arrest of Two Suspects After Checkpoint Breach

On Saturday night, a dramatic police chase unfolded in Jerusalem after a suspicious vehicle attempted to flee security forces. The incident began at the Hizma checkpoint, where Border Police fighters from the Jerusalem area and checkpoint units spotted a suspicious car coming from the West Bank toward Jerusalem. When officers signaled the driver to stop for inspection, he tried to escape, driving over spike strips placed at the checkpoint. During the escape, the suspect's vehicle collided with a civilian car, demonstrating the driver's determination to evade capture.

Joint forces from the Jerusalem Border Police and surrounding units launched a pursuit and intensive search operation, including intelligence gathering and field activity in East Jerusalem neighborhoods. The suspects were located at the entrance to the Issawiya neighborhood in East Jerusalem, traveling in a different vehicle identified as stolen and previously used to breach the checkpoint. The stolen car was found in the Beit Hanina neighborhood.

Two suspects were arrested: the driver, a Jerusalem resident, suspected of transporting the second suspect, an illegal resident from Hebron. Both were taken for interrogation at the Border Police's investigative and intelligence unit in the Jerusalem area. This case adds to a series of recent incidents involving attempts to breach checkpoints and evade security forces. Last week, Border Police internal security motorcyclists stopped a suspicious vehicle after a chase involving gunfire aimed at the vehicle's tires. Security forces continue intensive operations to prevent illegal entry and smuggling attempts. Recently, Border Police in the West Bank arrested a suspect involved in stone-throwing following a precise intelligence-led investigation lasting several days.
