Two Illegal Residents Killed After Driver Flees Jerusalem Checkpoint and Crashes

On Sunday, a driver refused to stop for a routine inspection at the Ring Road checkpoint in Jerusalem and fled at high speed, leading to a severe car accident. The vehicle overturned, resulting in the deaths of two illegal residents who were inside the trunk, while a third occupant was critically injured and taken to the hospital. Security personnel initially signaled the driver to stop and open the trunk, but he accelerated and lost control during the escape. Police from the Jerusalem district, forensic teams, and accident investigators responded to the scene. Following an extensive search and investigation, officers from the Shalem station located and arrested the 24-year-old suspect, a resident of East Jerusalem. He was taken in for questioning, and authorities plan to request an extension of his detention in court. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
