Manor Solomon Chooses West Ham for Premier League Return and Stability

Manor Solomon, captain of the Israeli national team, is set to join West Ham United on a permanent transfer, marking his second permanent move in his career. The transfer was confirmed on August 8, 2026, and represents a return to London for Solomon, who previously played for Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in the city. A key factor in his decision was his preference to continue living in London, which influenced his choice over other interested clubs.

West Ham, recently relegated but historically a strong club, offers Solomon a "trial year" as a regular starter with the potential to remain in the Premier League if the team secures promotion. The club sought a winger following the sale of Chris Sammarco to Saudi Arabia, and Solomon was favored over other candidates like Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson and Sunderland’s Simon Adingra due to his Championship experience and previous success replacing Sammarco at Leeds.

Tottenham demanded a €10 million transfer fee, reflecting the purchase option Fiorentina held after Solomon’s loan spell there, but West Ham negotiated a deal worth £5 million plus bonuses tied to appearances and promotion. Israeli football star Pini Zahavi, along with Solomon’s agents Shlomi Ben Ezra and Ronen and Gilad Katzav, played a significant role in closing the deal. Fiorentina and other clubs from Spain, France, and the Premier League showed interest, but Solomon preferred to stay in England.

Solomon is expected to compete directly with Sammarco’s role as a left winger who cuts inside and contributes to attack, a style that fits West Ham’s coach Nuno Espírito Santo’s tactics. Espírito Santo, known for relying on wingers and giving them freedom, could help Solomon thrive. Solomon’s recent preseason involvement with Tottenham and match fitness suggest he will integrate quickly into West Ham’s squad.

Financially, Maccabi Petah Tikva, where Solomon developed, will receive solidarity payments estimated at around €180,000, despite not being entitled to transfer percentages. This sum is based on the transfer fee excluding bonuses. West Ham’s retention of star Jarrod Bowen and Espírito Santo’s continuation as coach indicate the club views its relegation as temporary and is building for a swift return to the Premier League.
