Body of Missing Man Eldar Dayan Found Near Dimona After Two Weeks of Search
After nearly two weeks of searching, the police confirmed on Thursday that the decomposed body found near Highway 40 by a gas station in Dimona is that of Eldar Dayan, who had been missing since July 25. The investigation into Dayan's disappearance was transferred from the Dimona police station in the southern district to the Central Unit (YAMAR) Sharon in the central district after all initial search efforts were exhausted.
The identification process was conducted at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, where a comprehensive examination including forensic and anthropological analysis, DNA sampling, and CT scans confirmed the identity of the remains. The DNA profile was matched by experts using advanced technologies developed since October 2023 to aid in complex identifications.
Meanwhile, two suspects arrested on suspicion of involvement in Dayan's disappearance were brought before the court, which extended their detention by six days until August 12. The investigation into the circumstances and cause of Dayan's death is ongoing with professional teams at the forensic center.
