Singer Odaya Wins Defamation Case as Accuser Retracts False Claims

About a year after filing a defamation lawsuit over rumors alleging she had an affair with a married man, Israeli singer Odaya announced the legal proceedings against Shulamit Asraf Danino have concluded. Danino admitted that the accusations she made were false and issued a formal apology, retracting all defamatory statements. In her Instagram post, Odaya shared Danino's apology letter, which stated that the claims about Odaya's relationship with a married man were untrue, that Danino never met Odaya or her husband, and that she had no evidence to support her allegations. Danino also committed to refraining from further harmful publications or spreading rumors on any media or social platforms.

Odaya emphasized that "the truth has come to light" and highlighted the emotional toll the false accusations took on her, warning others about the damage caused by spreading misinformation online. Despite the resolution with Danino, Odaya clarified that her legal battle is ongoing against another individual, journalist Daniel Amram, who also faces a defamation suit filed by Odaya for similar baseless claims. The lawsuit against Amram demands one million shekels in damages, the same amount sought in the case against Danino.

Odaya's case underscores the challenges public figures face from false rumors and the importance of legal recourse to protect personal reputation. She called on the public to be cautious about the consequences of sharing unverified information, especially on social media, where harm can be irreversible.
