Man Hospitalized with Brain Bleeding After Attack for Removing Sign Supporting Yigal Amir

Ilan Mans, a 76-year-old man, was violently attacked after attempting to remove a sign calling for the release of Yigal Amir, the assassin of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The incident occurred last Thursday on the Hemed Interchange bridge over Highway 1 near Jerusalem. Mans was assaulted by activists who had put up the sign in recent weeks, resulting in severe injuries including brain bleeding and a concussion. He was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center and is expected to undergo surgery in the neurosurgery department.

Representatives from the detainee support group "Otef Otsarim," who are assisting Mans, reported that his left hand fingers stopped functioning and he dropped everything he held. The symptoms worsened over the weekend, prompting his family to take him to the hospital where a CT scan confirmed brain hemorrhaging caused by the attack. Mans remains hospitalized in the neurology ward and is expected to stay under observation for at least 48 hours.

The attack highlights tensions surrounding the controversial calls for Amir's release, which have sparked protests and counteractions in the Jerusalem area. The authorities and medical teams continue to monitor Mans's condition closely as he prepares for surgery.
