IDF Charges Nor al-Shams Battalion Leader for Deadly Bombing Killing Reserve Sergeant

The Israeli military prosecution filed serious charges on August 4, 2024, against Kamal Hatib, leader of the Nor al-Shams battalion terror cell, for orchestrating a deadly bombing in the West Bank that killed Reserve Sergeant Yehuda Gato. The attack occurred on July 1, 2024, in the Bala neighborhood, where Hatib and other militants remotely detonated an explosive device planted underground, causing an IDF vehicle to overturn and fatally injuring Gato, who was thrown from the vehicle. Another person was wounded and hospitalized.

Hatib is accused of multiple grave offenses, including intentional joint murder, attempted murder, leading an illegal terrorist organization, arms trafficking, and bomb placement. The indictment details his role in recruiting operatives, setting additional explosives, smuggling weapons, and funding militants, establishing a broad terror infrastructure threatening both Israeli security forces and civilians in the Samaria region.

The Samaria military court ordered Hatib to remain in custody pending trial.
