Israeli Military Files Charges Against Terrorist Who Killed Yehuda Gato in West Bank Attack

The Israeli military prosecution announced on Monday that it has filed an indictment against Kamal Hatib, a senior operative in the Nor al-Shams terror battalion, for his role in the deadly attack that killed retired Staff Sergeant Yehuda Gato in July 2024. Hatib, who served as a member, manager, and ultimately leader of the terror group, is accused of orchestrating the bombing that targeted an Israeli security forces vehicle in the Bala neighborhood on July 1, 2024. The explosive device, planted in advance and remotely detonated via a cellphone, caused the vehicle to overturn, resulting in Gato's death and injuring another individual who was hospitalized.

Beyond the fatal attack, the indictment details Hatib's involvement in multiple terror activities within the Nor al-Shams battalion, including recruitment for observation and manufacturing units, planting explosives, arms trafficking, and transferring funds and military equipment to militants. The charges against him include intentional joint murder, attempted joint murder, leading an illegal organization, arms trafficking, and bomb placement.

The Samaria military court has ordered Hatib to remain in custody throughout the legal proceedings. The military prosecution emphasized its ongoing support for Yehuda Gato's family, maintaining continuous contact and ensuring they receive all legal entitlements. Both the Israel Defense Forces and the military prosecution expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved family.
