Israeli Citizens Arrested for Assisting Terrorist in Deadly June Shooting Attack
Three Israeli Arab suspects were arrested for aiding a terrorist involved in a deadly shooting attack on June 7 in the West Bank settlements of Kochav Ya'ir and Tzur Yitzhak. The suspects, residents of Tayibe and Baqa al-Gharbiyye, were detained by the Shin Bet and the Sharon regional police unit following suspicions of their involvement in the attack that killed Chaim Klomiti, a member of the Tzur Natan security team. The assailant, Omer Munder Yassin, an Israeli citizen from Tayibe, carried out shootings at multiple locations including Kochav Ya'ir, Tzur Yitzhak, and Sela'it, injuring several civilians before being killed by Tayibe police officers after a brief chase.
The investigation revealed that two suspects, Aladdin Jaheim and Waam Matzaroha from Tayibe, were aware of Yassin's plans to carry out the attack but did not prevent it. The most serious charge concerns Mohammad Aftima from Baqa al-Gharbiyye, who allegedly supplied the Carlo submachine gun used in the shootings. The indictment against all three suspects is set to be filed today by the Central District Prosecutor's Office at the Lod District Court after thorough interrogations by the Shin Bet and police.
In a joint statement, the Shin Bet and Israeli Police emphasized their zero tolerance for any Israeli citizens involved in activities threatening national security or public safety. They pledged to continue using all available means to thwart threats and ensure strict prosecution of those involved in terrorist activities and illegal arms trafficking.
