Israeli Authorities Charge Three for Assisting Gunman in Sharon Shooting Attack
The Central District Prosecutor's Office is set to file indictments against three suspects accused of aiding the gunman behind a deadly shooting spree in several Sharon region communities last June. The suspects, residents of Tayibe and Baqa al-Gharbiyye, were investigated by the Shin Bet and the Sharon Regional Police following the attack.
The attacker, Omar Munder Yassin, an Israeli citizen from Tayibe, opened fire at multiple locations including Kochav Yair, Tzur Yitzhak, and Sela'it. The assault resulted in the death of Chaim Klumity, a member of the Tzur Natan security team, and injuries to several civilians. Yassin was killed by Tayibe police officers after a brief chase.
Among those arrested were Alaa Din Jaheim and Waam Matzaroha from Tayibe, and Mahmoud Aftima from Baqa al-Gharbiyye. Investigations revealed that Jaheim and Matzaroha allegedly knew of Yassin's intentions but failed to prevent the attack. Aftima is suspected of supplying the "Carlo" submachine gun used in the shooting.
The attack began at a gas station near Kochav Yair, where Yassin first opened fire on civilians, then proceeded to shoot at multiple sites in Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan before being stopped at the entrance to Sela'it by a security guard who confronted his vehicle. Initial security assessments mistakenly believed two attackers were involved, but police later confirmed only one assailant.
The case was transferred to the Central District Prosecutor's Office after the conclusion of the Shin Bet and police investigation, with indictments expected to be submitted to the Lod District Court today.
