Maccabi Tel Aviv Nears Signing Daniel Theis as Second-Highest Paid Foreign Player

Maccabi Tel Aviv is close to finalizing a deal with German center Daniel Theis, who is expected to become the club's second-highest paid foreign player. The 34-year-old Theis, a European and World Champion with Germany, played last season for AS Monaco. He agreed to a two-year contract worth approximately $2.2 million per season, placing him just behind Carlos Arroyo, who earns $2.5 million, and tied with Loney Walker at $2.2 million.

Theis joins a roster that includes notable foreign players such as Ippe Lundberg ($2 million), Nikola Vucevic ($1.8 million), and Jalen Hood ($1.8 million). The club is also reportedly close to signing a second center, Armando Bacot, and may add another guard to strengthen the squad.

Current team composition includes point guards Yam Madar, Ippe Lundberg, and Jimmy Clark; shooting guards John DiBartolomeo and Amit Abo; small forwards Bonzi Colson, Oshae Brissett, and Will Rayman; power forwards Jalen Hood, TJ Leaf, and Gur Lavi; and centers Daniel Theis, Roman Sorkin, and Armando Bacot (pending agreement). The club continues to build its roster ahead of the Israeli Basketball Premier League season.
