Man Sentenced to Life for Shooting Father-in-Law in Ramat Gan Stairwell

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Salomon Madmon to life imprisonment for the 2022 murder of his father-in-law, Yosef Yossefiah, in Ramat Gan. The killing occurred in June 2022 after Yossefiah returned from Sabbath prayers at a synagogue. Madmon waited for Yossefiah in the building lobby on Harei Gilad Street, then accompanied him in an elevator to the sixth floor where he shot him six times at close range, hitting his face and upper body. Yossefiah died within minutes, while his wife, daughter, and two young grandchildren were inside the apartment and heard the gunshots and cries.

The court found that the murder was premeditated and carried out calmly, rejecting Madmon's defense claim that he was intoxicated during the shooting. Evidence showed Madmon was highly functional, including driving skillfully and conversing logically with police after the incident. The motive stemmed from a family dispute following the separation of Madmon's son and Yossefiah's daughter, with Madmon blaming Yossefiah for the estrangement and sending threatening messages in the weeks before the murder.

In addition to the life sentence, Madmon received suspended sentences for weapons offenses and threats. He was ordered to pay 150,000 shekels in compensation to Yossefiah's four children. The court noted that Yossefiah's widow had already received one million shekels in a separate civil settlement. Madmon expressed remorse to the family, stating he suffers daily over the harm caused. Judges described the crime as an irrational act that turned a marital crisis into a tragic intergenerational disaster.
