Man Sentenced to Life for Shooting Father-in-Law Amid Custody Dispute in Ramat Gan

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Salomon Madmon to life imprisonment for the 2022 murder of his father-in-law, Yosef Yossefiah, in Ramat Gan. The killing occurred in June 2022 when Yossefiah returned home from synagogue. Madmon waited for him in the building lobby, then accompanied him in the elevator to the sixth floor, where he shot Yossefiah six times at close range, fatally wounding him. Yossefiah’s wife, daughter, and two young grandchildren were inside the apartment and witnessed the shooting and its aftermath.

The court found that the murder stemmed from a family conflict following the separation of Madmon’s son and Yossefiah’s daughter, with Madmon blaming Yossefiah for the estrangement between the families. Madmon had sent threatening messages to Yossefiah, including one two weeks before the murder stating, "You will pay." On the morning of the shooting, Madmon obtained a gun from a friend and traveled to Yossefiah’s home.

Judges Yossi Topf, Oded Maor, and Maayan Ben Ari ruled that Madmon acted with premeditation and calm deliberation, rejecting his defense claim that he was intoxicated during the shooting. They noted his competent driving and coherent conversation with police after the incident. Madmon was also convicted of weapons offenses and threats. The court ordered him to pay 150,000 shekels in compensation to Yossefiah’s four children, while noting that Yossefiah’s widow had already received one million shekels in a separate civil settlement.

In court, Madmon expressed remorse and said he suffers daily over the harm he caused. The judges described the crime as transforming a marital dispute into a tragic intergenerational family disaster, emphasizing the gravity of a grandfather killing another grandfather.
