Israeli Court Sentences Salomon Madmon to Life for Killing Father-in-Law Over Family Dispute

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Salomon Madmon to life imprisonment for the aggravated murder of Yosef Yossefiah, his father-in-law, following a family conflict after Madmon's son and Yossefiah's daughter separated. The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by a panel led by Judge Yossi Topaf, with Judges Oded Maor and Maayan Ben Ari, who ordered the life sentence to be counted from Madmon's arrest on June 18, 2022. Madmon also received conditional sentences totaling 17 months for illegal possession of firearms and threats, with conditions lasting three years post-release if applicable. Additionally, he was ordered to pay 150,000 shekels to Yossefiah's four children.

The court described Yossefiah as a beloved family man and noted that Madmon and Yossefiah were connected through their children's marriage, which deteriorated and led to the murder. The motive was Yossefiah's support for his daughter after her separation from Madmon's son, which Madmon blamed him for. The court emphasized that the murder was premeditated, not a spontaneous act. Madmon was convicted on June 23, 2026, of aggravated murder, illegal firearm possession, and threats.

The conflict escalated after Madmon's daughter-in-law, Mina Yossefiah, left her home with their two children to live with her parents in Ramat Gan. Madmon sent threatening WhatsApp messages to Yossefiah, who did not respond to avoid worsening the dispute. On June 18, 2022, Madmon obtained a semi-automatic pistol from a friend and traveled to Ramat Gan. Security footage showed him arriving near Yossefiah's residence, preparing the weapon, and then confronting Yossefiah in the elevator lobby.

Madmon shot Yossefiah six times at close range, causing fatal injuries. Neighbors heard the gunshots and Yossefiah's cries for help. Despite the victim's pleas, Madmon continued shooting, demonstrating his determination to kill. At the time, Yossefiah's wife, daughter, and grandchildren were inside the apartment, hearing the gunfire and distress outside. The court's verdict highlighted the tragic breakdown of family ties that culminated in this fatal act.
