Israeli Security Forces Arrest West Bank Guard Suspected of Assaulting Palestinians in Huwara

Israeli security forces arrested a man in his twenties from the West Bank on July 29, suspected of assaulting Palestinians in Huwara about two months earlier. The suspect, a member of a local security team, had been on the run for the past month before his capture in a joint operation. The incident occurred on June 6, when a group of settlers reportedly threw stones at Palestinian residents and vehicles near residential areas in Huwara, resulting in injuries to nine Palestinians, including one with a severe head injury.

Video footage from the scene showed the suspect dressed in military uniform, armed with an M16 rifle and a pistol, physically assaulting a Palestinian with punches. The Israeli Defense Forces condemned the actions, describing them as serious violations inconsistent with IDF values, and noted that such incidents undermine regional security and distract from counterterrorism efforts.

Police investigators, accompanied by IDF forces, collected evidence at the scene and later identified the suspect. During the arrest operation, the suspect's weapons were confiscated, and he was taken in for questioning. Authorities plan to request an extension of his detention to complete the investigation. Several other suspects have been arrested previously in connection with the case, and one indictment has already been filed.
