Israeli Football Association Files Serious Charges Against Ironi Tiberias Over Illegal Infusions

The Israeli Football Association (IFA) filed a severe indictment on Monday against Ironi Tiberias football club in the so-called infusion scandal. The charges include aiding the use of prohibited substances under aggravating circumstances, fraud, coordinating testimonies, and failing to comply with judicial decisions. Although no penalty demand was included at this stage, the IFA indicated that sanctions could be severe, ranging from point deductions to relegation.

The indictment alleges that even if it was not proven players actually received the banned infusions, the mere procurement of equipment and preparation for the procedure constitutes an offense. The IFA stated that the equipment used indicates at least an attempt to use a prohibited method to gain an unfair advantage in the fight against relegation. The infusions were reportedly administered without consulting a qualified medical professional, without medical justification or supervision, and without proper medical documentation, thereby endangering players’ health and careers.

The indictment also claims that some senior club officials were aware that these actions violated regulations but failed to prevent them. Additionally, the club allegedly tried to obstruct the investigation by coordinating false testimonies, intimidating witnesses, and defaming investigators. The indictment references Ironi Tiberias’s previous breach of a plea agreement related to a dual contracts case, including failure to implement new work procedures and to remove a key figure from club roles.

In response, Ironi Tiberias denied any use of banned substances, stating the case concerns only a procedural-medical issue related to administering simple saline infusions. The club criticized the indictment as speculative and lacking solid evidence, highlighting investigative flaws and bias. They pledged to defend their staff and players vigorously in court and continue focusing on performance on the field.
