Belz Hasidic Activist Rabbi Yaakov Aharon Farber Dies at 32 in Givat Ze'ev

Rabbi Yaakov Aharon Farber, a devoted activist and member of the Belz Hasidic community in Givat Ze'ev, passed away at the age of 32 after enduring years of suffering. Born to Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Farber, a prominent Belz figure in Montreal, and Chaya Tzipora, daughter of Rabbi Moshe Schwartz from Jerusalem, Rabbi Farber was deeply rooted in the Belz tradition. He studied at the Belz Talmud Torah in Montreal and later at the Belz Yeshiva in Ashdod.

After marrying the daughter of Rabbi Zusha Weichman, Rabbi Farber lived in Jerusalem before settling in Givat Ze'ev, where he became a leading young activist within the Belz community. He served as CEO of the community institutions for two years and recently initiated the "Ma'alot Tzur" program, aimed at integrating Haredi men into military service under specific conditions. These included serving without uniforms, participation limited to married men not currently studying in yeshiva, and requiring consultation with rabbis.

Rabbi Farber emphasized the importance of rabbinic guidance for those joining the program, stating in an interview that he always asked candidates about their rabbinic advisors to ensure they remained connected to the religious world. He is survived by his wife and six children, including a newborn daughter. The community mourns his passing and prays for his soul to be bound in the bond of life.
