Beloved Belz Hasid and Iconic Bnei Brak Grocer Rabbi Zev Rosenfeld Dies at 89
Rabbi Zev Rosenfeld, a revered figure in Bnei Brak's Belz Hasidic community and longtime operator of a famed grocery store on Chazon Ish Street, passed away peacefully at age 89 on Saturday morning. Born in 1937 in Teglas, Hungary, to Rabbi Mordechai Avraham Rosenfeld, an early resident of the Belz Hasidic court, Rabbi Zev remained deeply connected to the Belz dynasty throughout his life.
For decades, he managed the nostalgic and well-known grocery store at 8 Chazon Ish Street, one of the oldest in Bnei Brak's Torah and Hasidic neighborhoods, cherished for preserving a traditional atmosphere. Rabbi Zev was known for his humility and discreet acts of kindness, helping thousands quietly.
He leaves behind a blessed lineage of sons, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren who continue the path of Torah and Hasidism. His brother was Rabbi Shmuel Rosenfeld, a senior Belz Hasid and father of the current Belz Rebbe of Darag.
The funeral procession began at 11:00 a.m. from his home on Chazon Ish Street in Bnei Brak and continued at 1:30 p.m. from the Shamgar funeral home in Jerusalem to Har HaMenuchot cemetery, where he was laid to rest beside his late wife.
