Prominent Jerusalem Torah Scholar Rabbi Zev Safra Passes Away at 79
Rabbi Zev Safra, a revered Torah scholar from Jerusalem, passed away at the age of 79 after enduring severe suffering with acceptance and faith. Born on the 21st of Adar 5707 (1947) to Rabbi Yitzchak Leib Safra and Mrs. Rachel, he dedicated his life to Torah study and teaching from a young age, becoming a beloved and respected figure in the community. Known for his meticulous observance of commandments and deep love for mitzvot, Rabbi Safra raised his children with devotion to Torah and reverence for God, witnessing them grow into righteous generations.
In a tragic recent loss, Rabbi Safra mourned the death of his son, Rabbi Ben Zion Safra, a dayan at the Shirat David Rabbinical Court in Jerusalem, who died at 50 after a serious illness in Cheshvan 5785 (October-November 2024). Rabbi Zev Safra accepted this painful decree with faith and silence.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday night, the conclusion of Shabbat Parashat Eikev, at 11:30 PM, starting from the Ohel Yosef synagogue to Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem, where he will be buried. The family is sitting shiva at their home on 52/5 Harav Walenstein Street in the Ramat Poland neighborhood of Jerusalem. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
