Prominent Jerusalem Torah Scholar Rabbi Zecharia David Holzman Dies at 66

Rabbi Zecharia David Holzman, a distinguished Torah scholar and respected member of the Jerusalem 'Metamdim' community, passed away at the age of 66. Born in Jerusalem in 1960 to Rabbi Yehuda Holzman and Mrs. Beyla, he was named after his maternal grandfather, Rabbi Zecharia David Volas. Rabbi Holzman was a devoted student of Rabbi Leib Mintzberg, leader of the Metamdim community, and also studied under Rabbi Dan Segal. Known for his rigorous daily schedule, he would rise at 4 a.m. for prayer and study, maintaining meticulous observance of Jewish law.

For over 30 years, Rabbi Holzman studied at the Shomrei HaChomot Kollel and the Ahavat Zion Zibenbergen Kollel, where he partnered in study with Rabbi Meir Bloy of Meron. Together, they completed the Talmud twice with deep analysis. In the afternoons, he studied at the Satmar Kollel on Yoel Street. Beyond his scholarly achievements, Rabbi Holzman was known for his humility, dedication to honoring his parents, and extensive acts of kindness, particularly supporting the vulnerable residents of the Mea Shearim neighborhood quietly and generously.

He leaves behind a legacy of righteous descendants who continue in the path of Torah and reverence. His funeral took place on Tuesday, 12 Elul, with a large community turnout, and he was buried at Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
