Prominent Jerusalem-Born Torah Scholar Rabbi Menachem Goldschmidt Dies at 59
Rabbi Menachem Goldschmidt, a respected Torah scholar and prominent member of the Perushim community in Beit Shemesh, passed away on Monday evening at the age of 59 after suffering from heart issues in recent years. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., departing from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem to Har HaMenuchot cemetery for burial.
Born in Jerusalem on the 17th of Adar 5727 (1967), Rabbi Goldschmidt was the son of Rabbi Yechiel Michel Goldschmidt, a distinguished Jerusalem figure and devoted Torah learner associated with the Toldos Aharon Hasidic dynasty. He lost his father at a young age. Rabbi Menachem studied at the Brisk Yeshiva under the guidance of the Rosh Yeshiva and later married Rivka, daughter of Rabbi Michal Hominer, founder of the 'Zichru' method.
After marriage, he continued his studies at the Haran Yeshiva kollel in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem before relocating to Beit Shemesh. There, he was a neighbor of Rabbi Shlomo Sorotzkin, head of the Ateret Shlomo Yeshiva. Known for his immense scholarship and dedication to Torah study, Rabbi Goldschmidt was also recognized for his warm personality. Professionally, alongside his Torah pursuits, he was an expert sofer specializing in crafting tefillin batim, a skill highly sought after by the Brisk community.
He leaves behind a large, righteous family of eleven children, including a son engaged to be married. His sudden passing has deeply shocked his many acquaintances and friends. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
