Rabbi Shmuel Mintzer, a senior teacher at the Ma'ayan HaTalmud yeshiva, was buried in Jerusalem on Sunday at the age of 75. The funeral left the Beit Yisrael synagogue on Even HaEzel Street in the Ezrat Torah neighborhood and proceeded to Har HaMenuchot, where he was interred.
Mintzer was born in Jerusalem on 12 Tevet 5711. He was the son of Rabbi Yitzchak Zev Mintzer, a student of Rabbi Elazar Menachem Man Shach at the Lomzha yeshiva who was close to the Brisker Rav and later became known as a bookseller in his Jerusalem home, and of Chana Dvora, the long-serving and legendary head of the New Seminary in Jerusalem.
As a young man, Mintzer studied at the Brisk yeshiva under Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, where he built his Torah knowledge. After marriage, he established a home based on Torah and fear of Heaven. He was among the first and leading residents of Ezrat Torah and taught Torah and reverence in Ma'ayan HaTalmud for decades, becoming known for his integrity, his exemplary conduct, and his dedication to passing on the tradition of his teachers.
He leaves behind children, sons-in-law, and descendants who continue his path. His brothers are Rabbi Chaim David Mintzer, one of the heads of Knesset Yitzchak in Hadera and author of Chayei David, who is due to marry off his eldest grandson on Thursday, Rabbi Matityahu Mintzer, Rabbi Yaakov Meir Mintzer, and Rabbi Zelig Mintzer.
