Rabbi Zev Krauker, Esteemed Amsterdam Scholar, Passes Away at 75 in Antwerp

Rabbi Zev Krauker, a revered Torah scholar and respected member of Amsterdam's Haredi community, died suddenly on June 4, 2024, in Antwerp, Belgium, after a brief illness. He was 75 years old. Born in Poland in 1951 to a family of Gur Hasidim, Rabbi Krauker moved to the Netherlands after World War II, where he became a certified ritual slaughterer serving the Dutch Jewish community for decades. He studied in Jerusalem's Beit HaKerem Yeshiva and was known for his deep devotion to Torah study and his unwavering commitment to truth and kindness.

Rabbi Krauker was married to the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchak Baruch Schechter of Amsterdam and maintained a large accounting firm alongside his religious duties. He was a pillar of the Etz Chaim synagogue in Amsterdam and actively supported its continuity. In his later years, he frequently traveled to Antwerp, leading prayers and Torah classes at the Derchei Yitzchak and Alexander synagogues and attending weekly lessons by Rabbi Chaim Tirnauer.

Known for his wisdom and integrity, Rabbi Krauker was a trusted advisor and advocate for justice within the community. He was deeply connected to the Talna Rebbe and regularly engaged with his teachings. Rabbi Krauker passed away with a clear mind in an Antwerp hospital, and his body was brought to Amsterdam for burial near his ancestors before sunset, a moment of sorrow for the Dutch Haredi community.

He is survived by his devoted wife, daughters, sons-in-law Rabbi Asaf Yosef Smotni of Antwerp and Rabbi Shalom Yehoshua Frenkel of London, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all distinguished Torah scholars. His legacy as a man of truth, kindness, and Torah learning remains deeply cherished.
