Rabbi Yaakov Farber, Founder of Major Haredi IDF Integration Program, Dies at 32

Rabbi Yaakov Aharon Farber passed away overnight between Sunday and Monday at the age of 32 after his condition worsened during a planned medical treatment. He was the founder, CEO, and initiator of the "Ma'alot Tzur" program, a key initiative integrating Haredi men into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Rabbi Farber lived in Givat Ze'ev and was recognized as a prominent activist within the Belz Hasidic community. Under the guidance of his Hasidic leadership, he led the "Ma'alot Tzur" program, which he established less than two years ago. This technological Haredi track has successfully recruited approximately 500 yeshiva students from the mainstream Haredi sector into the IDF. The program has been credited with achieving the highest number of Haredi recruits in the past two years.

Throughout his life, Rabbi Farber faced criticism and opposition from extremist factions due to his efforts to promote Haredi enlistment in the military. In recent months, protesters from the Jerusalem Faction visited his home multiple times to demonstrate against his activities. Rabbi Farber is survived by five children, the youngest being only four months old.

His death marks a significant loss for the Haredi integration efforts within the IDF, which continue amid ongoing societal tensions and protests related to Haredi conscription in Israel.
