British artist David Hockney, regarded as one of the most influential figures in 20th and 21st century art, has died at the age of 88. His representatives announced the news on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Publicist Erica Bolton said in a statement that Hockney was “one of the most important figures in contemporary art in the 20th and 21st centuries.” She added that he died peacefully at his home in London on Thursday.
Hockney worked in a wide range of artistic media, but he was best known for his brightly colored paintings, especially landscapes. He was due to turn 89 next month.
