Maccabi Haifa Signs Dutch Defender Nigel Lonwijk for €500,000 Transfer
Maccabi Haifa has officially signed 23-year-old Dutch defender Nigel Lonwijk, marking the club's sixth acquisition this summer. The Israeli Premier League team will pay English club Wolverhampton Wanderers a transfer fee of €500,000 to secure Lonwijk's services.
Lonwijk, who has Surinamese roots, developed in PSV Eindhoven's youth system before moving to Wolverhampton as a youth player. He has been loaned out to several clubs, including Fortuna Sittard, Plymouth Argyle, Wycombe Wanderers, and most recently Luton Town, where he made 45 appearances and scored two goals last season in England's third tier.
The defender participated in Wolverhampton's preseason training before completing his move to Haifa, where he will join coach Barak Bakhar's squad. Lonwijk is expected to bring hunger and determination to succeed at his new club. Alongside Lonwijk, Maccabi Haifa has also signed Omri Glazer, Yair Mordechai, Tsunami, Bruninho, and Andrea Novakovic this summer.
