Israeli Officials Demand Tougher Military Response After West Bank Terror Attack

Following a deadly terror attack near the Gilad Farm in the West Bank, where one Israeli was killed and two others seriously wounded, Israeli political and regional leaders called for a significant escalation in security measures against Palestinian terrorism. The attack occurred on Friday morning near Gilad Farm in Samaria, prompting immediate reactions from government ministers, Knesset members, and local council heads in Judea and Samaria.

Finance Minister and Security Cabinet member Bezalel Smotrich extended condolences to the victim's family and wished recovery for the injured. He condemned the recent erosion of deterrence and urged the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to act decisively against the village harboring the attackers, emphasizing the need to restore Israeli sovereignty and deterrence. Smotrich praised the settlers and farm pioneers as Israel's frontline defense against Arab terrorism.

Knesset member Zvi Sukkot, chair of the Judea and Samaria Subcommittee, called for a harsher military campaign, demanding the village of Tal be turned into "ruins" to prevent future attacks. He stressed that isolated responses are insufficient and advocated for a broad operation to dismantle terror infrastructure and seize additional territory in the West Bank. Sukkot also called for increased Jewish settlement and sovereignty in the area.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir equated the punishment of terror-supporting villages in Judea and Samaria to the IDF’s actions in Gaza, stating he would demand orders to demolish terrorists’ homes and exact a heavy price for each Israeli victim. Regional council heads Yossi Dagan (Shomron) and Israel Gantz (Binyamin and Yesha Council) echoed calls for offensive measures against terrorists, continued settlement expansion, and a shift in policy to treat the West Bank as a central front in Israel’s security strategy. Gantz highlighted the ongoing wave of arson, attempted attacks, and incitement by the Palestinian Authority as part of a coordinated terror campaign.

The officials emphasized the need for a comprehensive military operation to dismantle terror cells and infrastructure, impose severe consequences on perpetrators, and strengthen Israeli presence and sovereignty in the West Bank to prevent future attacks.
