Armed Attack on Israeli Hikers Near Shomron Settlement Gilad Leads to Weapon Theft and Injuries

The story · English

This morning, a group of Israeli hikers was attacked by dozens of Arab assailants near the village of Tal, close to the Gilad settlement in the Shomron region. During the assault, a security coordinator from the settlement who arrived at the scene had his weapon stolen by one of the attackers, who then fired shots at the hikers. Israeli security forces responded promptly and are currently searching for those involved in the incident.

Magen David Adom reported receiving an emergency call at 08:18 about a shooting east of Gilad, with paramedics treating an Israeli victim who was conscious at the scene. Additional medical teams from United Hatzalah also provided initial aid. Later updates indicated that the security coordinator managed to recover his stolen weapon, and a second Israeli was reported injured. Authorities continue their efforts to locate all perpetrators.

This rare and serious attack follows a recent severe arson incident at Gilad settlement last Saturday, which destroyed 13 homes and left dozens homeless. Two Palestinian suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the arson, which police classified as a hostile act. Gilad, established in memory of Rabbi Raziel Shevach who was killed in a shooting attack in January 2018, is situated in a sensitive area of Shomron and frequently experiences violence and terror attacks. Despite these challenges, residents remain committed to strengthening the community.
