Israeli Soldier Whose Weapon Was Stolen by Militants Questioned by Police on Assault Suspicion

An Israeli soldier who was attacked and had his weapon stolen by militants near the West Bank settlement of Susya last Saturday was later questioned by police on suspicion of assault. The soldier was assaulted by several militants who attempted to shoot him, but he fought back, was injured, and managed to escape. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested four suspects involved in the incident.

On Wednesday, the soldier arrived at the police station to give testimony about the attack but was unexpectedly interrogated under caution as a suspect for allegedly assaulting the militants. His lawyer, Nati Rom from the legal aid organization Honenu, sharply criticized the police for this treatment, emphasizing that the soldier was the victim and that video evidence clearly supports his account.

The Israel Police stated that the investigation is in its early stages, with several suspects detained and testimonies collected. They are reviewing all available evidence to uncover the truth and ensure proper legal proceedings. The case remains open as authorities continue their inquiries.

This incident follows a similar attack last week in the Hebron area, where militants also seized a soldier’s weapon. The IDF responded by conducting searches, recovering the stolen weapon, and arresting suspects. The ongoing investigations reflect heightened tensions and security challenges in the southern Hebron region.
