US Uses B-1 Bomber in New Strikes on Iran Amid Rising Tensions

The US military employed a B-1 bomber in recent airstrikes against Iran, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The B-1B Lancer, capable of carrying large payloads of bombs and cruise missiles and flying at supersonic speeds, took off from Britain and was tracked by monitoring sites, though the US Central Command did not officially confirm its involvement. The exact targets and effectiveness of the B-1 strike remain unclear.

Iran reported that one of the attacked sites was the border crossing area of Makhcheh between Iran and Iraq, about 50 kilometers from the Iraq-Kuwait border, a country Iran has threatened since the conflict began. Iranian sources said US missiles hit a rest area used by the Iranian border guards, killing two people. Another target was near Andimeshk, roughly 80 kilometers from the Iraq border. US Central Command released footage showing airstrikes on a moving vehicle, an airport area, a seaport, and a ship set ablaze.

The US stated this was the twelfth consecutive night of strikes targeting Iranian military assets, including naval capabilities, missile storage, drone facilities, coastal surveillance, and air defense. Iran claimed to have hit US bases in Kuwait and accused the US of violating Kuwait's sovereignty. Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned of possible ground force actions against Kuwait.

The B-1 bomber, less famous than the B-2 but highly capable, can carry up to 84 smart bombs or 36 long-range cruise missiles and stay over combat zones for more than six hours. It is equipped with advanced surveillance systems to distinguish targets from friendly forces. Israeli assessments suggest one key target might be the Fordow nuclear site, following President Trump's threat of a powerful strike there.

Meanwhile, the US is deploying special forces, medical teams, and weapons to the Middle East to expand military options. Fighter squadrons are positioned across the region, and bombers in the US and UK are on high alert. The situation escalated with threats exchanged between Washington and Tehran, including President Trump's warning to destroy Iranian infrastructure if US ships are attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's parliamentary chairman's vow to disrupt global oil sales if Iranian oil exports are blocked.
