Samsung Unveils New Foldable Phone, Smart Glasses, and Updated Watches for Summer

Samsung has launched a completely new foldable smartphone alongside updates to its existing models, introducing a somewhat confusing name change. The previous two foldable models remain available: the smartphone that unfolds into a small tablet and the clamshell-style phone that folds to half its size. A new model has been added, with the naming scheme altered. The Galaxy Z Fold8, formerly the large foldable tablet phone, is now called the Fold Ultra. The new device is named Galaxy Fold and features a smaller, rectangular foldable screen.

The new Fold folds to roughly passport size, weighing about 200 grams. It has a relatively small 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.6-inch internal tablet screen. While the screen size is close to the old Fold (now Fold Ultra), the proportions differ significantly, designed to better suit how users consume content, such as reducing black bars on video streaming platforms. Early impressions suggest the new Fold could become popular due to its compact size and lighter weight, despite a smaller external display.

All Fold and Fold Ultra models will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, while the Flip model uses Samsung's Exynos chip. Storage starts at 256GB with 12GB RAM. The Flip is lighter and thinner than its predecessor, weighing 180 grams and measuring 6.1mm thick when open. The devices will be available from August 8, with slightly reduced prices: the Flip at 4,000 shekels, the new Fold starting at 6,100 shekels, and the Fold Ultra at 6,900 shekels for the base storage. A 1TB Fold Ultra model will cost nearly 9,000 shekels.

Samsung also introduced new smart glasses featuring a built-in camera and integration with Google's Gemini AI. These glasses can display contextual information, summarize long messages, read important info aloud, support real-time translation, provide location-based guidance, and allow users to share or record their point of view during calls. Battery life is expected to last nine hours, but pricing and availability were not disclosed.

Additionally, Samsung revealed new smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 (47mm) and Galaxy Watch9 available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. These watches offer advanced health monitoring features, including heart rate tracking, sleep apnea detection, heart strain monitoring, and alerts for dangerous noise levels.
