Samsung Unveils New Galaxy Z Fold8 Series With Fold8 Ultra and Flip8 Upgrades
Samsung announced its latest generation of foldable smartphones on Tuesday, introducing three new models: Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. For the first time, the Fold series is split into two distinct models. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra becomes the flagship device, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 targets users seeking a lighter phone optimized for content consumption, daily tasks, and multitasking.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs just 201 grams, the lightest Fold to date, and features a larger 4,800mAh battery for extended use. Its external screen has a new aspect ratio better suited for typing, browsing, and messaging, while the internal 4:3 ratio screen is designed for media viewing, reading, and gaming with up to 3,000 nits brightness and anti-reflective coating. The device incorporates Flex Titanium technology to reduce thickness and strengthen the frame, along with improvements to the hinge and internal structure to minimize the crease and enable smoother opening and closing. The camera system includes 50MP wide and ultra-wide lenses, with new software features like Dual Recording and My FanCam for enhanced video capture.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra replaces the previous Fold flagship, featuring an 8-inch internal display for multitasking and content creation. It weighs 215 grams and is 4.1mm thick when open. Its camera setup includes a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, with upgraded Nightography mode and 8K video recording support. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, it has a 5,000mAh battery, 45W fast charging, and an improved cooling system to maintain performance during heavy use and AI tasks.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 also receives significant updates, especially to its external FlexWindow screen, which now offers direct access to apps, notifications, personalized information, and Galaxy AI features without opening the phone. Weighing 180 grams and 6.1mm thick, it is the thinnest Flip model yet. New software features include Now Brief and Now Nudge for contextual information and actions, and voice or button activation of Gemini from the external screen. The Flip8’s camera includes a 50MP main sensor with ProVisual Engine, hands-free Flex mode shooting, Super Steady stabilization with horizon lock, and FlipShot and mirror modes for selfies with real-time preview on the external display.
