Samsung Unveils Eighth-Generation Foldable Phones Featuring AI and Ultra-Thin Design

Samsung revealed the eighth generation of its foldable smartphone series at the Unpacked event in London, introducing three new models: the compact Z Flip 8, the redesigned Z Fold 8, and the new flagship Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Ultra model is Samsung's thinnest foldable yet, measuring just 4.1 mm when open, with an 8-inch display and enhanced durability thanks to Flex Titanium technology that minimizes the central screen crease. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and features a 200-megapixel camera, positioning it as a pocket-sized tablet replacement.

The standard Z Fold 8 received a significant screen aspect ratio update, becoming wider and shorter when closed to allow easier one-handed typing and eliminating the "remote control" feel of previous models. Its internal screen now has a 4:3 ratio ideal for media and work, and the device weighs only 201 grams, making it the lightest foldable on the market.

For users preferring compact devices, the Z Flip 8 offers a revamped external FlexWindow that provides full access to apps, chats, and tasks without opening the phone. The new Now Brief feature consolidates weather, schedules, and critical alerts into interactive cards on the external screen.

A major highlight across the series is the integration of "Agentic AI," powered by Google's Gemini, which enables proactive multitasking and personalized suggestions. Features like Now Nudge can add calendar events from text messages automatically, while Gemini Notebook converts PDFs and audio recordings into videos, presentations, or podcasts, enhancing productivity.

Pre-orders have started in Israel through authorized retailers, with official sales beginning on August 8. Pricing remains premium: the Z Flip 8 starts at 4,000 shekels, the Z Fold 8 ranges from 6,100 to 8,200 shekels, and the Ultra model exceeds 9,000 shekels for the top configuration. Israeli consumers face a choice between cutting-edge design and technology versus a high price point.
