Nauru Cabinet Approves Opening Embassy in Jerusalem, Deepening Ties with Israel

The cabinet of Nauru has decided to open an embassy in Israel, to be located in Jerusalem. This move follows an agreement reached last month between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Nauru's Vice President Lionel Aingimea during their meeting in Fiji. The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that the new embassy is expected to open in the coming months. Nauru will become the tenth country to establish an embassy in Jerusalem and the fifth to do so during Sa'ar's tenure.

Following the decision, Sa'ar praised Nauru as a true friend of Israel and emphasized that the embassy's opening will strengthen bilateral relations. He assured that the Foreign Ministry will provide all necessary assistance to expedite the embassy's establishment and expressed anticipation of hosting Nauru officials in Jerusalem, which he called Israel's eternal capital.

Nauru is a small island nation in Micronesia, located just south of the equator in the North Pacific Ocean. It has been a consistent supporter of Israel at the United Nations and submitted a legal opinion backing Israel in a case at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. In 2019, Nauru officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
