Nauru to Open Embassy in Jerusalem, Becoming Tenth Country to Do So

Nauru has announced it will open its embassy in Jerusalem, making it the tenth country to establish a diplomatic mission in the city. This decision follows an agreement between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Nauru's Vice President and Foreign Minister Lionel Aingimea during a meeting in Fiji last month. Aingimea visited Fiji to attend the opening of Israel's embassy there. Nauru, a Pacific island nation, is a consistent supporter of Israel at the United Nations and has submitted legal opinions in favor of Israel in cases at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The country officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in 2019. This move comes shortly after Sa'ar reached a similar agreement with Colombia's incoming foreign minister to open an embassy in Jerusalem.
